PATENTS
My first invention is a highspeed ship and the picture below shows a model that use «ground effect».
I applied for patent and the model was tested in 1971 and shows that the ground effect lifted the hull out of water. Model test showed if the opening in front of a catamaran is bigger than at stern, the air pressure will lift the hull.
I did not get patent in 1971 because a catamaran from 1967 had a design much the same.
Catamaran model from 1971 useing «ground effect».
In 1978 I applied for patent on the wave energy converter shown at the picture below. A German patent describe a hydraulic wave pump, which stopped the announcement of my patent.
I did not give up highspeed ships or WECs, and in 1988 I got the design NO 66659 of a highspeed ship and INNOVACO was established.
I changed focus from wave pumps to the category of overtopping, and in 2002 I applied for patent of the wave energy converter shown at picture below, which was announced in 2005.
The hinged ramp of a WEC was not new, but the tilting of the WEC to reduce the slop of the ramp was new ant patent NO 318295 was a reality.
The Kaplan turbine used in WECs in the category of overtopping was not effective when the pressure was low and varied, as it does due to small and big waves.
I therefore applied for patent on a new turbine, and the turbine of patent NO 322956 was announced in 2005.
A lot of design which combines wind and wave energy was applied for, and design NO 81332 in 2008, NO 81898 in 2009, NO 83137 in 2011 are examples.
When I retired from my job as teacher in 2010 I got more time for my hobby as inventor, and the computers drawing and writing programs made the applying process easier.
Patent NO 343513 from 2017, NO 343537 from 2018, NO 345283 from 2019 and NO 345965 from 2021 are all improvements of the turbine from 2005.
The turbine become an engine by using check valve, and I believe it can be a methanol engine in future. Patent NO 345283 was given to Wärtsila in 2021. This last patent, NO 346550 from 2022, of turbine/engine is registered on my son Petter Ottesen.
Patent NO 344547 from 2018 describe a flexible joint used in long floating bridges.
Patent NO 344901 from 2018 describes a foil engine which use the waves for propulsion at open sea, and patent NO 345827 from 2021 describes technology for lifting the foil engine from sea to hull when ships goes to port.
In 2017 design NO 85800 was announced, which is a hybrid seaweed, wind and wave energy design(SWWE).
In 2018 design NO 86253 was announced, which is the a hybrid aquaculture, wind and wave energy design(AWWE).
This new aquaculture design used triangle cages, and 2 patents for collecting fish are related to this type of AWWE. Patent NO 344482 from 2019 and patent NO 345376 from 2020. 13 cages with a triangle design and 10 cages if normally round cages are used. The size of an AWWE is decided due to the size of wind turbines, to get the desired length between the turbines.
